Mercedes 560SEC ex Johnny Carson 1988

This 1988 Mercedes-Benz 560SEC was sold by Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills to Johnny Carson, who reportedly kept the car until 2003. The MSRP was $77,910. The car was featured in the January-February 2022 edition of MBCA’s The Star magazine.

Ron Sturgeon had an identical one in 1989. He tells a story about his:

“This was the most expensive car Mercedes made at the time, and if you had one, I reckon some would say you were a baller. I recall driving on the freeway in it, sailing along.

I noticed an attractive blonde in a Ford 5.0 Mustang beside me, another important car of the era. I thought she was looking at me, and I guess I was checking her out. I was sure she was checking me out also, so I took an extra glance. At that time, I smacked the curb on the left side, and it shocked me into the reality that she likely wasn’t looking at me, and I needed to pay more attention.

When I got home I got out of the car, and the wheel was cracked and broken. I was lucky to make it home! I told Kathi about it, and she said,

‘YOU GOT JUST WHAT YOU DESERVED.’”
